I offer two newborn packages:- a full newborn session – (£230) and a mini newborn session – (£99). When a client calls me to discuss the options available, Some clients will often ask me what is the difference between the Full session and a mini session so I thought it would be a great idea to write a little blog with some more information that could be helpful while making this decision that is best for you and your family.
As always its best to book either session after your 12-week scan, so we have plenty of time to discuss your requirements and likes and dislikes, and we can ensure a tailored session for you. The newborn mini session is a simple no-fuss session without props, backgrounds, no sibling or family images, just your sweet little new baby, you get a choice of one hat or headband, on a beanbag with baby wrapped or in clothes. We don’t wait for the baby to fall asleep and the session length is 30-45 minutes. We can’t add on parent or sibling posing as then it’s a full session with all the time that is involved, however – you get 5 incredible images of your perfect little baby in a no-fuss session.
The time allocated in the sessions are also different, Most of my newborn photography mini shoots take around 30 – 45 mins as we are not waiting for your little one to fall asleep we are photographing them as they are in most cases wide awake and happy and content. Whereas a full session can last between 2-3 hours depending on your little one and the images that we create together, It allows for extra time for those all-important family images & sleepy curly gorgeous poses, sometimes using props to create gorgeous stylized portraits that you will enjoy for many years to come.
During the newborn mini session I like to strip the session right back and keep your gallery very simple using only one color, one hat / headband and only 5 images simple and beautiful photography focused around your baby naturally as they are, whereas a full session the use of props, fluffy rugs, outfits, sibling shots, and family shots are inclusive, It is a fuller gallery of around 30 – 35 images using lots of different styles and poses and props.
Regardless of if you want to book a full or a mini session, all sessions are discussed beforehand so that I can really understand your vision and what style of session you would prefer. The editing in a full session usually takes longer and is more specialized so another consideration I ask my clients to make when deciding on a full or mini session is how quickly you require the images as a mini session I aim to deliver your images within 24 hours and a full session can take up to 3 weeks to edit.
While I am discussing the difference in session types that I offer….. I stumbled across Marie from Marie Myers photography who wrote a brilliant blog this week (which can be found HERE) with fantastic advice on when to book your newborn photography session which I found really helpful and Interesting.
